Historically, the area was known for its trading and port activities since ancient times. Among others, the mineral mines and the production of goods and textiles were feeding the trading corridor between the capital of Greece, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean islands.
The studied site is next to the port and an old abandoned textile factory stands on the premises. The goal was the proposal of a master plan that would revive the abandoned site and shift the area to an alternative destination close to Athens with cultural and educational activities related to local craftsmanship.
This master plan consisted of three main designing actions. The first consisted of the extension of the north plaza by the preservation of only the structural body of the factory and the augmentation of the natural features. The second dwelled the shaping of the three buildings that will host the cultural and accommodation facilities, and the final subsisted the redesign of the front south view as the port’s extension with a big marina that will host visitors from the Aegean islands.
